Applying For Jobs Online Can Offer False Hope

By Alex Vega

Many people applying for jobs today have found themselves being forced into applying for jobs online. Though this is a great convenience for both the possible employer and the applicants it can sometimes make job seekers think that they are close to a job without really putting in the work necessary to stand out in this tough job market.

In today's job market it is going to be hard to stand out from the horde of applicants many employers are getting for even what most would consider menial jobs. When applying for jobs online be sure to understand your fit for the position. Just because applying for a job is easy doesn't mean you are qualified. If you do feel you would be able to do the work required make sure to include the skills and training in your resume or answers that have been identified in the job opening itself. I am not saying to stretch the truth but if a job opening requires excel and you do not have it on your resume it may not even get to a live person to review it. It may be filtered out just on that basis.

Include everything that you think will reinforce your fit for the opening. If they have a place for a cover letter on top of a resume be sure to include one that highlights both what you feel you can offer the company as well as any insights you already have about the company itself. Do your homework and this will differentiate you from the other folks who have the generic "I would love to work for your company because it is so great..."

After you have gone through the online application process don't be afraid to follow up with a phone call. Try to get the right contact person and even if you can't a call into at least HR might separate you from the crowd. This will also help you to understand what the time table is for making hiring decisions for the specific opening.

Just because applying for jobs online is easy don't take things for granted in this economy. Remember that hope is not a strategy and that looking for a job is now your job. Apply for the jobs that are really a fit for your background. Whenever possible create a human connection so that there is someone looking out for your application on the other side of that internet connection.

Though applying for jobs online can seem easy depending on your background there are many people out of work today that do not have the best computer skills. They may need some extra help understanding how to research job openings online as well as actually stepping through the full application process for whatever opening they are hoping to get. The truth is that not all companies use the same systems so it may be confusing even for some internet savvy folks. If you need help there are resources available at many public libraries as well as unemployment offices. Don't be afraid to let them help you when applying for jobs online.

The Power of Making Residual Income Online

Many people make the mistake of thinking they have to work for every dollar they earn. This is why they remain poor. Now this sounds like the intro to some sort of criminal proposition, but it’s actually something far more exciting. It’s the prospect of making residual income online. That’s right. That means working for a dollar once, and then letting that work continue to earn you dollar after dollar long after you’ve moved on to another project. Do you think the inventor of Post-It notes worries about where his next paycheck is coming from? Definitely not. While you may never invent something as hot as Post-It notes, you have a great chance at succeeding online.

Making residual income online means having a plan. Don’t think for a moment that it’s something you can do in an afternoon and then just sit back and watch the money roll in. Unfortunately, it’s a little more difficult than that. It takes some hard work and planning up front for you to see profit and leisure on the other side.

There are many ways to make residual income online. Some people actually feel overwhelmed when they see all of the ways. They worry that they’ll choose the wrong one. First things first: don’t worry. Don’t invest all of your savings into a losing opportunity, but don’t worry, either. Many of today’s most successful Internet entrepreneurs stumbled more than once on their way to fortune. You may stumble a few times as well. That’s okay. Get back up, brush yourself off, and get plugging away. If you remain dedicated to both research and practice, you are guaranteed to find something that will bring in the bucks.

Speaking of opportunities, what do you think you might be interested in? Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways of making residual income online. Find a product that someone is selling and jump into their affiliate program. You essentially become a salesman for them. That probably won’t mean going door to door. This is the internet, after all. If you want to sell a product, you create content. Web pages, blogs, articles, advertisements. In the online world, these are the tools of the affiliate marketer.

Speaking of articles, they too can be used as a separate way of bringing is residual online income. There are several websites that accept well written articles and then pay the writer based on page views and a percentage of ad revenue. You can write the article once and then watch as it brings in a steady stream of income. It may not be much at first, but as you gain experience and put more articles up, you’ll start to see a considerable return.

Making residual online income is something that everyone can do. You don’t have to be a marketing genius. Much of the methods are tried and true and they are out there for you to follow. If you dream of one day resting while the fruits of your labor pay off, residual online income is for you.

Go Local for More Money

Go Local for More Money

One of the absolutely most profitable things you can do to generate a lot of cash in a hurry is to take your online skills to the offline world. When those two worlds collide, money happens. And, it's not nearly as difficult as you might think.

Here's what I've discovered... most offline business owners want to have a profitable online presence, and may even have a website already, but they aren't optimizing it even a bit. I love this market, because it's incredibly easy to find clients, and it's even easier to really impact their businesses. In fact, if more of us online marketers would go offline; I believe we could really make an impact in our local communities.

How can you profit quickly from this opportunity?

Here are some services that you can offer that you probably do already for your own business:

Web Design or WordPress Blog Installation & Customization
If you're a WordPress Superman or Wonder Woman, then you can fly in to save the day. If you're not, but know one that will work in your favor too! You bring in the client, your friend does the work and you both profit.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization
In some markets this is hard to compete in, but if you're in a medium-sized town, it can be quite easy to get the number one ranking position in Google for your client simply by submitting a few articles, posting a video on YouTube, and sending out some press releases. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, but your client will surely think you hung the moon.

List Management
This is another highly profitable opportunity for you to take your online skills into the offline world. Offer to set up a mailing list for your offline clients and bill to send the weekly or monthly updates. You can really step this up a notch by doing some testing and offering coupons in the ezines you send that are only sent to that list. When customers start walking in with those coupons, your client will know who sent them.

Video Marketing
Many offline business owners aren't into writing, but they will get in front of a camera to talk about their area of expertise. Grab a Flip Mino camera and capture that video and post it to the host video sites, using some coveted key phrases. You can certainly charge a big price tag for this service, even though it may seem like a trivial “everyone knows how to do that” task. Trust me. They don't!

So, where do you start? Ask around first. It's always easiest to get in the door with people you know, or who know people you know. Then, create a list of profitable offline businesses and take note of any who do not have an effective web presence. From there, it's a matter of picking up the phone and taking that first step.

Find out just how easy (and inexpensive!) it is to add offline advertising to your online business.

It really is a great deal, so go ahead and grab your copy now...Offline Marketing For Web Business

When You Want To Learn Wordpress

When You Want To Learn Wordpress

Wordpress is the website building tool of choice for many business owners these days. It’s a great option. No software needed on your computer, great functionality and flexibility – and you can update your site content from any computer, netbook or smart phone. It’s no wonder that it’s become so popular.

You’ve probably heard that Wordpress is incredibly user friendly – and it is! Still, most first time users find it overwhelming at first. If you ever tried to tackle Wordpress on your own and felt like giving up, you’re not at all alone. There’s a lot to take in at first.

I was lucky though. I had several patient friends available to help me over the learning curve. Still, I wouldn’t say that I felt truly comfortable for months after. The more I got to know it, the more I realized that Wordpress is both simple and complex all at the same time.

If you only want to use Wordpress to publish content, it’s pretty darned simple. The visual editor operates like any basic word processor. You enter content, press publish and you’re finished.

Think of Wordpress as being three things at once.

1. It’s a Content Management Script that runs on your web server, letting you enter content as easily as writing an email.
2. Your content is stored in a Database on your web server.
3. Finally, it wears a Theme, a set of template files, that determines how the content is displayed online.

Entering content is easy. The database takes care of itself. Customization, want to alter your design and manipulate the database for special needs, you have to tap a whole other area of knowledge and that’s where many get stuck.

There’s good news and bad news for those who want to learn more about managing their Wordpress site. The good news is that there’s a huge resource of documents and a large community of developers and users who are willing to answer your questions. The bad news is that there’s a huge resource of documents and a large community of developers and users… ;)

The trouble for newcomers is usually that they don’t know how to ask the right questions to produce the answers they really need. The documents and forums seem to be written in a foreign language and newbie questions are often answered with links to more foreign explanations that just add to their feelings of overwhelm.

My advice? Don’t give up. Keep asking questions. To get the best answers, provide as much information about your problem as you can. If you’re persistent, you’ll find that things come easier over time.

Virtual Assistants Are Oftentimes Moms, Like You and Me

Mom, You Can Become an Online Virtual Assistant
by Nicole Dean

Virtual Assistants are oftentimes moms, like you and me, who want to work from home. A Virtual Assistant (or VA) can offer clients any number of services from their home-based location, rather than being at a traditional office. VAs can earn a nice income, charging somewhere in the area of $10 to $30 per hour, with specialized or more technical services ranging around $50 per hour.

If you have basic computer skills, a general knowledge of how an office works, or even specific skills that business owners are looking for, you certainly will want to consider starting your very own Virtual Assistant business from home. Your start up costs will include a good computer and home office setting, but the ongoing business expenses are minimal. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Services You Will Offer: Before you start, decide which services are within your skill set or expertise. Do you love booking travel plans for people? Can you type extremely fast? Are your spreadsheet or word documents dead-on accurate all the time? Are you in your element talking to people on the phone? Can you troubleshoot mixed-up orders or information? Can you design a web page? In offering services to clients, you'll need to decide what you are suited for, and develop a strategy for working with your clients that hire you.

The Virtual Assistant Starter Pack” can help you with this step and each of the ones below.

Put Together a Business Plan: Before taking the next step of starting a Virtual Assistance business, you will want to write a business plan that includes an overview of your business, mission statement, marketing and financial plan. To help you put together your plan, decide which services to offer, etc., please review the link at the end of this article.

A Home Office That Suits Your Business: Many people have small home offices, but you'll want to go beyond working from your laptop on the kitchen table. The home office used for your Virtual Assistant business should be quiet and comfortable -- preferably with a door that you can close! Invest in a nice desk for your computer and printer when you can afford it. Consider a separate telephone line in your home office if you wish to keep client calls from being answered by family. Keep in mind that, as your client list expands, so will your business, so in the future you may want to include items like a scanner and additional storage for client information.

Your Software Needs: The software you choose for your computer will depend on the services you intend to offer clients. Your budget will determine which software programs you can purchase, but be sure you are installing only reliable programs. Upgrading your computer and purchasing new software is something that you'll be doing right along as your business grows. We suggest researching and networking with other VAs to get recommendations for the best software available.

Marketing 101: Along with getting business cards, letterhead and address labels professionally prepared, you'll need to set up a website that will serve as your "virtual office"; a place where potential and current clients can visit you online. Add information about your services, contact information and testimonials once the work starts coming in. To get started, you might offer some services free to a few business owners in return for feedback and to build your portfolio. Your service business will grow best through word of mouth.

You can enjoy your new career and make good money in the process from home. Virtual Assistants are highly in demand in an uncertain economy. When a small business owner has the option of taking on the expense and commitment of a full-time employee verses opting for a Virtual Assistant as a consultant part-time, you can see why this opportunity is growing. Get started today.

Recommended Additional Resource:

To get a full overview of what you need to start your Virtual Assistant business, how to set up your website, market your business and keep your clients, check out the Virtual Assistant Starter Pack”.
